Kristina loves pink and when she saw this prom dress at Recyclique, she had to have it. Well sure it's a couple sizes too small but who cares? She wanted it turned into a skirt and this is how we did it. Easy peasy!

Picture
Measure the length you want the skirt on yourself and then measure from the bottom hem up to where you want the waist and add 1 inch.

Use a yard stick or make several marks across the dress to help you cut strait.

Fold over 1/4 inch and iron, then fold over again 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch and iron flat.

This will be for the elastic we are adding!

Sew as close to to the edge of the casing you just made, making sure to catch all layers and leaving a small gap unsewn.

Use a safety pin to help run a piece of elastic around the waistline casing, overlap the elastic ends a bit and stitch together. Then stitch the small gap closed.

Taa daa!! one former prom dress now in a gorgeous skirt you can wear any where and any time!

Now, what to do with the top?!!?!?

Hope you enjoyed this quick down and dirty tutorial. Let us know what you have made lately!!

We have made Kristina several skirts with blue jean tops so shortly after we made this dress, she realized she totally missed the pockets from the jeans. So redo! we took the elastic waist out of the original skirt and added it to a jean top. Now awesome dress with the pockets of the jeans! best of all worlds!
