We were walking into the Asian Market and right in the doorway were these little berries. I stopped and looked at them as I like to try new things. The box said Kiwi Berries, and the picture looked like a mini kiwi. I'm thinking no way? I give my husband the 'can we get these look' and he says sure let's try it. I couldn't wait to get them home.

Finally home I look at the label a little more closely (I guess normal people do this at the store?) and discover they aren't Asian at all. At least these weren't. It turns out they originally came from Asia but this particular batch came from a farm right here in the U.S. They are grown on Hurst's Berry Farm in Oregon. How cool is that? So now that I knew what they were I got to eating (I washed them first of course). Guess what I saw inside?!

OK the picture of mine did not turn out, I am still practicing at photography. Click this picture to go to the concrete canopy's post on kiwi berries.
It looked like a tiny kiwi inside! For real. The best part, the outside wasn't all fuzzy, you can eat it. I did pop off the tops and bottoms. They are probably edible but I didn't care for the texture. Anyway, they were super tasty too, they tasted just like a kiwi even down to the tingly feeling on your tongue if you a) eat to many b) its not quite ripe yet. Lots of fun. If you happen to see any around give them a try. It looks like now is the right time of year for them, go take a look. (P.S. the kids loved them too).

I bought some of these a couple of weeks ago and loved them! They taste just like kiwis and they are like grapes. No carving just pop them in your mouth.

It does look like green tomatoes on the outside but kiwi on the inside, maybe because it was grown outside of New Zealand where the weather and soil is different. I love eating kiwi fruit and I put them on fresh salad.
