So Staples had 1 cent tissues with the purchase of $5 or more. I was there to buy notebooks but figured while  I'm here I might as well get something for a penny! I then bought the max you can get which is 5. At home, I'm sitting there looking at these tissues thinking, "I really didn't need these, what am I going to do with them?" When I thought, make a case for the craft show!
Let me explain the zombie theme.... Mom (Millie) is working with a friend of ours to set up a trip to some fan fest where the Walking Dead cast will be so we were doing some zombie theme items. (If you see a Frankenstein's monster rather than zombie don't feel too bad, so did my daughter. By the way August 30th is Frankenstein day - bet you didn't know that!)

Picture
To make your own tissue holder:
Scrap worsted weight yarn, H hook
Step 1: Make a crochet rectangle slightly wider than your tissues and slightly taller. I did 14sc x 25 rows in lion cotton with an F hook.

Step 2: Make 2 smaller rectangles, exactly half as wide and same length. Naturally mine were 7 sc x 25 rows.

Picture
Sew the two smaller rectangles to the larger, corner to corner, they should meet in the middle. Don't sew the middle shut!

Add in your tissues to check for fit.

You could stop here for a pretty cover, add some flowers, or beads, or whatever will make it pretty. OR... make a zombie, monster, person thing.

Picture
I single crocheted evenly down both sides of the opening to make a mouth (right now it looks yellow on my monitor so he looks like a duck. I think my monitor is dying ;_; oh well).

The eyes are plain circles.
Rnd 1: 6 SC in a ring,
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each of the 6
Rnd 3: 1 sc in 1, 2 sc in 1 around. You'll have 18. If it is too big you can of course stop sooner. Be smarter than me and leave a big long tail to sew your eyes on.

Picture
The iris is just 6 sc in a ring, don't forget the long tail.

Sew the black circles onto the white circles (you could try red for some creepiness).

Sew the white onto the tissue case.

Picture
Originally I stopped here but I felt like he looked like a frog. That is the fun thing about crochet though, change one little thing and it looks totally different.

Picture
So I added two rows of black across the top for hair. I did black because I had it on hand from the eyes and most cartoon zombies have black hair and greenish skin so I figured why not. You could do pink for brains, that seems popular, or mix pink and black for hair and brains, or red or brown or yellow. Whatever color you want. Either way, he is all done and ready to hold your tissues. Don't forget to tuck all your tails!

If you  make one send me pictures and permission to post them and I will make a little gallery. If you have it on the web send a link and I will link back to you too.  Lets have fun! - Kristina

Thank you. That is a good idea, they do seem to get runny noses from the cold.

It's wouldn't be expensive to start - just grab a learn to crochet kit (has hooks, yarn and instructions) then you tube it! there are a lot of really good videos out there and it will give your child a fun, useful hobby! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
