We went up to Kerr lake to camp out with some friends.

First time I have camped in at least 30 years, about 15 for Greg and David.

I wasn't sure I would like it, Greg was sure I wouldn't, so I wanted to give it a shot.

The view was beautiful!

We had tested out setting up the tents before we went camping, so they went up quick. Greg and David set them up under the trees for shade, the tents on top of tarps.

The tent is pretty cool with a large gezebo type center and two 'bedrooms' on either side. Small flaw - the three pieces are open at the bottom so bugs get in...

A friend told me about glamping - I don't think this is it but we did have air mattresses. I would say from the sounds from the camp grounds, most everyone had at least one air mattress. Totally understandable - why sleep on the cold, hard ground when you can sleep on an uncomfortable, squishy and noisy air mattress?

We tested out our fire starters and had a little fire at the camp. It was nice as it had gotten a bit chilly and the smoke would help keep the bugs away.

The rangers had cleared out branches at each campsite so our search for firewood for sale before we left was a waste of time. We did burn part and share part w/our friends though so it was used. Mostly we burned the trimmed branches and leaves.

The park lands and lake were very beautiful! Walking around the area we saw beautiful trees, flowers, wildlife, rotting logs and fungus. I think it doesn't really show in the photo but this fungus was very pretty with creamy skin and green stripes.

We took Layla with us (there is her dinner to her right and our 'cook tent' behind her - a screened in stand alone gazebo). She didn't mind the fire, she didn't mind the tents, didn't like being on a leash the whole time and didn't like the people and dogs walking around.

We arrived at the campsite Friday about 4pm and she did not sleep or relax until we arrived home Saturday about 4pm.

Saturday morning we visited with our friends at their camp across the street. They also had air mattresses and a few other luxuries like this coffee maker. Pretty cool deal! They were totally enjoying themselves and were sad when we left them there at the lake Saturday afternoon. We were supposed to stay until Sunday but I did not want to spend another sleepless night.

The experience did help me to decide that if I go camping in the future, I am taking an RV!!

Enjoy yourself today and try something new!
